Gaithersburg: Nicole Paulino got the shock of her life. She found out she was declared dead while trying to renew her driver’s license. Can you imagine?

She received a text saying she was “officially deceased.” Nicole was understandably frightened and surprised. “I’m alive! I’m here!” she exclaimed.

Things quickly spiraled out of control. Her license renewal was denied. Then, she got a letter from the IRS calling her a “deceased taxpayer.” Talk about a nightmare!

To make matters worse, her health insurance for her and her kids was canceled. Suddenly, she was facing medical bills and couldn’t even get her asthma inhaler.

Nicole shared her struggles, saying, “This really messes up my life. It has affected my health, my mental health.”

Eventually, Social Security reached out to her. They explained it was all a clerical error. A funeral home had mixed up some numbers and mistakenly reported her as dead.

The Social Security Administration said they usually have accurate records, but mistakes do happen. An attorney mentioned that these errors can seriously impact your credit report.

After NBC4 Washington looked into her case, Nicole finally received a letter from Social Security. It officially declared her alive again. What a relief!
