A quirky Oxford home featuring a giant shark sculpture is up for rent at £4,000 monthly, but short-term lets are now banned by the council.
The house was left to Dr. Magnus Hanson-Heine after his dad, Bill Heine, passed away in 2019. Bill put that shark up there back in 1986. It was a bold move, and now it’s a local landmark.
The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is on New High Street. It’s fully furnished and has all the modern amenities. You get a nice kitchen, laundry, Sky TV, and fast Wi-Fi. Plus, it’s got off-street parking.
Dr. Hanson-Heine used to rent it out on Airbnb, but the council decided to stop that. They say it’s about housing concerns. He’s not happy about it, calling it “political point-scoring.”
He believes it takes away from Oxford’s charm and tourism. He wants people to experience this piece of history while they can. The council, however, is focused on the housing crisis. They say they need homes for people, not just holiday rentals. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
