Edinburgh: A big snowstorm is on the way for the UK. Weather maps show that some areas could get buried under 11 inches of snow soon. It’s been a cold month, with temperatures dropping to -18.9°C in Scotland last week. That’s the coldest January night since 2010.

Next week, the cold is set to return. Northern parts of the UK are bracing for heavy snowfall. On January 24, Scotland and northern England will see the worst of it. The western Highlands might get around 10cm of snow, while Inverness and Aberdeen could see 6cm and 4cm, respectively.

Northern Ireland isn’t escaping either, with 3cm expected in some areas. But the rest of the UK might dodge the snow. Just a day later, central Highlands could be hit with up to 17cm of snow, while other regions stay dry.

The Met Office warns of a messy mix of weather starting January 24. A deep low-pressure system is heading our way, thanks to a powerful Jet Stream. Expect wet and windy days ahead, with snow in the north. Rain and strong winds will likely continue into February.

So, get ready for some serious winter weather! Stay warm and keep an eye on the forecasts.
