Meet Aaron Phoenix, a passionate spider rescuer with over 1,000 tarantulas at home
His collection is split between his “tarantula cave” and a breeding site. Some of his spiders are as big as dinner plates! After gaining attention last year, he welcomed another 300 tarantulas. Now, he travels around the UK, helping people overcome their fear of spiders.
Aaron feels like it’s his mission to save these creatures. He often gets messages from people wanting to downsize their collections or give up the hobby. He’s rescued over 200 spiders just last year!
His love for spiders started when doctors suggested a hobby for his bipolar disorder. He remembered a pet tarantula from his teen years and decided to dive in. Now, he’s on a mission to rescue abandoned spiders and sell them to other enthusiasts.
Helping people face their fears is rewarding for Aaron. He’s had many folks reach out, curious about different spider species. He loves seeing someone go from terrified to holding a spider in their hand.
Most of his spider army lives in one room, which surprises many. He’s setting up a breeding facility and has a separate room for his critters. Aaron believes he was born to save spiders and help others overcome their fears. He takes precautions to ensure they don’t escape during feeding and rehousing.
