Officials are pushing for an immediate ban on Shein, AliExpress, and Temu due to privacy issues similar to TikTok’s recent troubles
Officials are worried about user data being sent to China. A privacy group filed a complaint against these companies. They claim these retailers are violating EU data protection laws.
Kleanthi Sardeli, a data protection lawyer, raised serious concerns. She said Chinese companies must comply with government data requests. This puts European users’ data at risk.
Sardeli emphasized that China doesn’t offer the same data protection as the EU. She believes transferring personal data is unlawful and should stop immediately.
The group also pointed out that China lacks a proper data protection authority. This makes it hard for users to know what happens to their data.
So far, TikTok hasn’t commented, and the others are silent too. The Daily Star has reached out for their responses.
