London: A Russian spy ship called Yantar has been spotted in UK waters. It’s been gathering intel and mapping important underwater sites. The UK’s Defence Secretary, John Healey, confirmed this in Parliament.

He mentioned that the Yantar entered the North Sea, about 45 miles from the coast. To keep an eye on it, the Royal Navy sent out two ships, HMS Somerset and HMS Tyne. They’ve been tracking the Yantar closely.

This isn’t the first time the Yantar has been in UK waters. Healey noted it was also monitored back in November. He took steps to ensure there was no threat from the ship.

He even authorized a Royal Navy submarine to surface near the Yantar. This was to show they were watching its every move. After that, the Yantar left UK waters and headed to the Mediterranean.

Interestingly, this situation comes amid rising concerns about Russian and Chinese activities in the Baltic Sea. Germany has even sent a drone to help monitor these threats.

In recent months, there have been incidents involving Chinese vessels cutting undersea cables. This has raised alarms among several countries in the region.
