A beloved pub in Ashbourne will close for renovations, aiming to enhance its charm and community vibe with a £200,000 investment
Ashbourne: Exciting changes are coming to a popular pub! The Coach and Horses is getting a £200,000 makeover. A local firefighter, Ian Godfrey, is taking over.
Ian grew up in Ashbourne and has fond memories of the pub. He wants to bring it back to its former glory. The pub will close on January 18 for renovations.
When it reopens, expect a fresh look with new paint, signage, and seating. The garden will also get a facelift, adding space for over 70 people.
Inside, there will be new furniture and lighting, plus classic photos of Ashbourne on the walls. A games room will feature a pool table and darts board.
Ian plans to offer a wide range of drinks, from craft beers to cocktails. He’s excited to create a welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike.
He wants to host community events, like quizzes and live music nights. Ian aims to make the pub a hub for local groups and sports teams.
People are buzzing about the changes. Ian says the staff will remain, so familiar faces will greet everyone when they return.
The pub will reopen at the end of February, just in time for Ashbourne’s Royal Shrovetide on March 5. Exciting times ahead!
