Derby: So, it turns out Allestree Hall could have been a kitchen showroom! Crazy, right? The council has been pretty tight-lipped about the sale details, but some bids have come to light.

Last month, they announced that Staton Young bought the hall to turn it into a wedding venue. But guess what? There were other ideas on the table too, like making it a private residence or that kitchen showroom.

While the council hasn’t shared the sale price yet, they did mention that the revenue is “much-needed.” They’re still working out the details with the developer.

It’s nice to see some action at the Grade II Listed building after years of nothing happening. They’ve even started some winterization work to protect it from the elements.

The council believes selling it through a long lease will help renovate the hall and keep it from falling apart. They included some outbuildings in the deal too.

They received a Freedom of Information request asking for the sale price and how the money would be used. But, of course, they’re not sharing that info until everything is finalized.

A spokesperson said they’re still in the early stages of the long lease process. They need to finish negotiations before revealing any financial details.

Before the developer can get a 250-year lease, they have to submit a planning application. Once everything is sorted, the lease could be extended to 999 years!

The preferred bidder has nine months to submit their plans for Allestree Hall. The council also shared some details about the other bids they received.

Councillor Kathy Kozlowski mentioned that selling the long-lease interest would bring in much-needed income and give the new owner a chance to revitalize the building.

Staton Young has a good reputation for restoring historic buildings, so they seem like a solid choice for this project.

Marc Brough, the managing director at Staton Young, is excited about the opportunity. He can’t wait to bring Allestree Hall back to life and create a stunning wedding venue.
