Derby: A strange and tragic event unfolded outside a police station. A man named Marius Ciolac was shot after acting erratically. He was reportedly trying to break through the glass doors while holding a knife and a cat in a bag.

This all happened on October 7, 2022. Witnesses described him as being like “a man possessed.” Officers tried to control the situation with a Taser and other methods, but nothing worked.

Marius, a 35-year-old builder from Romania, entered the police compound around 10 am. He was shot in the abdomen after running at an officer. Paramedics rushed to help him, but he sadly went into cardiac arrest and died later at the hospital.

One officer, PC Paul Trussell, shared how scared he felt. He thought Marius might harm someone if he got inside. The officers shouted for him to drop the knife, but he didn’t listen.

Another officer, Sergeant Anthony England, described how bizarre it was to see Marius lick the knife. He was worried about his colleagues and the public. The presence of a cat in a bag added to the strangeness of the situation.

The inquest is ongoing and expected to last four weeks. It’s a tough reminder of how quickly things can escalate.
