Derby City Council plans to enhance grass-cutting services after last summer’s complaints, investing £200k for better results.
Last year, the grass cutting was a real mess. People were frustrated, and it made headlines. Councillors argued about how slow the grass was being cut. Some even said it was dangerous for drivers.
At a recent meeting, a council leader mentioned that the grass-cutting team was stretched thin. They only had the bare minimum of workers. If they want to do better this year, they need more staff.
Currently, there are 25 gardeners on the team. The director of city sustainability believes the new funding will make a big difference. She hopes to add about six more gardeners to the team.
The council leader also pointed out that this investment is crucial. They plan to buy a new machine that can handle wet grass, allowing them to cut all year round. It sounds like Derby is finally getting serious about its grass!
