Swadlincote: On Monday afternoon, a fire broke out at Midland Lead. Witnesses saw thick black smoke rising into the sky. Fire crews rushed to the scene on Kiln Way around 3:44 PM.

When they arrived, they found flames in the building’s filtration system. Thankfully, no one was inside, and there were no injuries reported. Firefighters used special equipment to tackle the blaze.

They worked hard, using jets of water to put out the fire. After a few hours, they left the site but returned the next morning to check for any remaining hot spots.

Midland Lead shared an update on Facebook, explaining that the fire started in a crucial part of their air pollution control system. They assured everyone that all staff were safe and that they were working with emergency services.
