Brent Naylor, wrongly accused of a bus incident, shares his harrowing experience of violence and public shaming after police error
Brent is only 5’8″ and very slim, while the suspect was over six feet tall and described as “chubby.” After the police released his name, they showed up at his home with six officers. It was a shocking experience for him, especially since he has a disability.
After his arrest, Brent faced harassment from neighbors and even got assaulted. He was called names and felt unsafe in his own community. Just before Christmas, he was hit on the head with a bottle.
Despite being cleared, he still gets threats and has been evicted from his home. He feels the police didn’t do their job right and that they put his life in danger. Brent later took legal action against the police and received a payout, but he insists it was never about the money.
He worries about the real offender still being out there, fearing they might escalate their crimes. Brent’s story highlights serious issues with police procedures and the impact of wrongful accusations on innocent lives.
