The stores set to close include Romford, Broadstairs, and Coventry. Staff have been informed, and they’re feeling the pressure.
Homebase fell into administration last November, with 133 stores at that time. Luckily, CDS bought the brand, saving many jobs and keeping some stores open.
They’ve assured customers that all stores would keep trading as usual. However, they’ve put 74 locations up for sale, with bids due by November 29.
Sainsbury’s is expected to buy three more stores, adding to the ten they secured earlier this year. B&Q has also agreed to purchase five branches.
That leaves about 58 stores still uncertain. At the time of administration, Homebase had around 3,600 employees. They’re currently being supported as negotiations continue.
The confirmed closures include Bradford, Cheltenham, and Hull Hessle, among others. The exact closing dates are still unknown.
CDS plans to convert nine locations into new-format The Range stores, which will include garden centers and paint mixing machines.
They aim to open three hybrid stores each week, with 70 planned in total. CEO Alex Simpkin mentioned the brand’s long history of helping UK households with DIY projects.
Closing down sales have started at several locations, with discounts ranging from 10% to 50%. Other sites in Derry and Glenrothes are also having sales.
Earlier, it was confirmed that six sites would close before the end of 2024, including Sutton Coldfield and Rugby.
