Erewash Council is taking a stand against boy racers, introducing £100 fines to curb reckless driving and restore peace in the community
Residents have been fed up with reckless driving, especially on Chalons Way. The council heard from locals who felt unsafe using the road. They’ve seen videos of cars doing doughnuts and revving engines, which is just too much.
The council’s spokesperson mentioned that kids couldn’t sleep due to the noise. It’s been a real nuisance. The police can seize cars, but they need to warn drivers first. That’s why the council is sending fines through the post to vehicle owners instead.
This new plan is called a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). It’s backed by Derbyshire police to help keep things in check. Some residents want this order to cover more areas, like Kirk Hallam and Stanton Gate, where similar issues have popped up.
Cllr Becca Everett, the Deputy Leader, said residents have had enough. The council’s action is clearly supported, and they’re hopeful for more powers from the Government to tackle these problems.
