Walton-on-Trent: There’s a new plan for a battery farm near the old Drakelow Power Station. It’s from Tagenergy Development UK Limited. They want to build it on a 15-acre field off Main Road.

The South Derbyshire District Council will decide soon. This comes after they turned down another battery farm plan nearby. That one was across from the Dracan Village development.

Council members are worried about too many battery farms popping up. They’re concerned about traffic on rural roads, which are already busy with vehicles heading to Burton and the A38.

This push for battery farms is part of a bigger trend. Companies are trying to connect renewable energy projects to existing power lines. It’s all about hitting carbon reduction goals.

There are worries about fire risks too. Battery farms aren’t covered by current building regulations, so there’s a lack of safety assessments.

The new plan claims it’s crucial for the UK’s renewable energy future. It aims to balance energy supply, making sure we have power even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing.

It’s also seen as a way to ease pressure on land for other renewable projects. If approved, the site will have containers that are about 8.8 meters long and 4 meters high, storing a gigawatt of electricity.

That’s enough to provide emergency power for four hours. It’s an exciting step towards a greener future!
