Quba Charity in Derby is under investigation for possible misuse of funds, raising concerns about its operations and connections to another charity.
Quba Charity, which used to be known as the Specialist Sports Foundation, started in January 2021. Its address has changed a couple of times, but it’s been based in Luton.
The inquiry began after the commission noticed links between Quba Charity and another charity, Quba Trust. There were some serious concerns about how Quba Trust was managed. Three of its trustees were disqualified due to misconduct.
Two of those trustees were also involved with Quba Charity. So, the commission is worried about their influence on Quba Charity. They found that both charities have similar branding and online content, which raised more red flags.
The inquiry will check if Quba Charity has been sticking to its mission. If not, that could mean funds were misused. The commission has put a stop to any fund transfers or fundraising activities for now.
They’re also asking current and former trustees to provide information for the investigation. The inquiry aims to clarify the trustees’ actions and whether the charity’s funds were used properly.
Once the inquiry wraps up, the commission will share a report detailing what they found. Meanwhile, Quba Charity claims to focus on education, especially for kids in underserved areas.
Derbyshire Live is trying to reach out to Quba Charity for more details about their work in Derby. They’re still waiting for a reply.
