Derby: The city is gearing up for some overnight street work. They’re resurfacing three main streets: Victoria, Albert, and Corporation. This will happen from 8 PM to 5 AM, so businesses can keep running smoothly.

The work starts on January 20 and wraps up by February 11. This is part of a bigger plan to make travel easier for everyone—cyclists, bus riders, and pedestrians alike. After the resurfacing, new planters will be added to brighten up the area.

The city has been working hard to improve active travel options. They want to connect two key business districts: St Peter’s Quarter and the Cathedral Quarter. Expect wider paths, better cycleways, and more bike stands. Plus, bus stops will have improved lighting for safety.

Councillor Carmel Swan is excited about these changes. She believes they’ll make Derby more inviting and help people choose greener travel options. Originally, the project was set to finish in February 2025, but delays happened due to bad weather and a burst water main.

Now, the contractor is in the final stages and aims to finish by the end of March. This project is backed by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, with Derby and Nottingham councils securing £161 million to boost local transport and promote low-carbon journeys.
