Exciting plans for Boulton Moor include new sports pitches and allotments, but concerns about financial viability linger among local residents and officials
The proposal is from Persimmon Homes North Midlands. They want to build two full-size football pitches, a junior pitch, and even a cricket square. Plus, there’s three acres for allotments. Sounds great, right?
But here’s the catch. Some folks are worried about whether this will actually work financially. Chellaston Leisure Limited says the income from the pitches might not cover the costs of running the pavilion or maintaining the fields.
The council is set to discuss this soon. They’ve heard concerns about losing green space and flooding issues. But they also see the benefits of having more sports and recreation options for the community.
Interestingly, many homes in Boulton Moor have already been built without the necessary infrastructure. Some councillors think the allotments should have been prioritized before the housing.
There are also plans for a transport hub and a cycling bridge over the A6. It’s all part of making this area more accessible.
Boulton Moor has been growing since 2009, with several phases of housing approved. There are even plans for shops and restaurants. It’s an exciting time for the community!
